A Love Song Written by a Murderer

A Love Song Written
by a Murderer

Between the years 2013 and 2017, 482 women were killed by their partners in Peru. In most cases, a chilling pattern appeared: perpetrators apologized with sweet loving messages after physical abuse episodes. This behavior gave them a chance to re-enter their partner's lives and attack them one last time with fatal results.

Vida Mujer invited Diego Dibos, one of Peru's most famous romantic songwriters, to take an apology letter written by a man before he killed his wife, and create a beautiful romantic song that was a word-by-word transcription of the message. It was launched as his new single, and when it became famous, Diego revealed the truth about the song and started a nationwide discussion about domestic violence.
